Ya-hwei Hsu is a Professor in the Department of History at National Taiwan University. She earned her PhD from Yale University in 2004. Hsu has published extensively on the subjects of Chinese antiquarianism and collecting culture, spanning from the Song to the Ming dynasty. Her research interests have now expanded to include the burial culture of the Liao, Song, and Jin dynasties. In addition, she is leading a project called 'Middle Period Chinese Tombs,' which aims to comprehensively and systematically catalogue the contents of Chinese tombs from the tenth to the fourteenth century.
