The ERC project Regionalizing Infrastructures in Chinese History (RegInfra) organized its first reading group titled “What is a Region”, with participants from The Lives and Afterlives of Imperial Material Infrastructure in Southeastern China project (International Institute of Social History, Amsterdam), and The Structure and Impact of Trans-Pacific Trade, 16th to 18th Centuries: The Manila Galleon Trade Beyond Silver and Silks project (KU Leuven). Participants discussed, among other, the topics of local and regional entities, state capacity and local autonomy. The title and reading material were suggested by Prof. Hilde De Weerdt, and the meeting was moderated by Sunkyu Lee, PhD. The reading included two papers:
