On December 11, Dr. Sunkyu Lee will lead a workshop titled “Image Sources and Digital Annotation in Historical Research” for Ph.D. students in the History Department at KU Leuven.

This workshop introduces participants to the use of IMMARKUS for applying digital annotation methodologies in historical research. It provides an overview of annotation as a research method for assembling, analyzing, and comparing a wide range of primary sources. Participants will then explore how these methods can be integrated into their own projects to enhance the management and analysis of visual and archival materials.

Through hands-on exercises, participants will learn how to:

  • collect and organize images and other archival sources
  • design custom data models for identifying and annotating specific image regions
  • store and manage metadata effectively; and
  • visualize and export annotated data for further research.

The workshop will conclude with a discussion and Q&A session on how to best incorporate image annotation methodologies into individual research projects.
